The forged and twisted old wrought iron water line hoops that open these cellar doors are from an old waterline that ran through the owner’s property some time ago. The button heads from the bands were left to showcase what the repurposed iron water lines had looked like in their former life.
Three bands were forged together, twisting along the way, to make the door pulls. The top connection is part of a repurposed wrought iron chain reclaimed from the Clark Fork River.
When the residents bought the land they collected the wrought iron to use for design elements in their home. I had previously designed and forged an iron pot rack that hangs from reclaimed wooden beams in their kitchen. They approached me about incorporating the old water line piping into cellar door pulls.
